[The vertical farm: controlled environment agriculture carried out in tall buildings would create greater food safety and security for large urban populations]

Over the next 50 years, rapid climate change issues will play a major role in agriculture. It is estimated for every 1° of increase in atmospheric temperature, 10 % of the land where we now grow food crops will be lost. The ability of governments to provide essential services for its citizens, and in particular to maintain systems that provide a reliable and safe food and water supply becomes more and more problematic. In less developed countries, other problems also exist that will become magnified because of global warming. Diseases transmitted by fecal contamination, such as cholera, typhoid fever and a plethora of parasitic infections, are commonplace where human excrement is used as fertilizer (an estimated 50 % of all farming on the planet). Over the last 5 years, in the United States alone, food recalls due to bacterial infectious diseases have resulted in billions of dollars of lost income. In traditional farming, a plethora of plant pathogens (e.g., rice blast, wheat rust) and insect pests (e.g., locusts) account for staggering losses of crops worldwide. The consequence of this activity is that the carbon cycle is out of balance and will only get worse if nothing is done on a global scale.

Because of the increasing people, climate change, lower ability of agriculture and dissemination of disease, the food we are consuming today are less safe and healthy. This article is about vertical farm which is a new way of agriculture to create greater food safety and security to alleviate the food security problem.

[ARS National Research Program for Food Safety]

The overall vision of the program is to support public health. Since food safety and food security are global issues, ARS'sresearchprogram involves bothnational and international collaborations through formal and informal partnerships.

Since food security problem became so serious for us to attach importance to, The ARS National Research did a program about food security. The overall vision of the program is to support public health.

[Food Engineering: Key Component of Food Quality & Safety]

Food engineering, food chemistry, and food microbiology are the three disciplinary pillars governing the processing of value-added food products. Working together, these disciplines are capable of revolutionizing the current food system. Indeed, it is difficult to conceive of a food-related issue without consideration of all three fields. Here, Balasubramaniam et al discuss the significant role of food engineering in addressing the challenges of food safety.

This seems like a good article which interests me, but it is not online. One of the main reasons which caused the food security problem is, food chemistry has improved with the development of the technology. This directly created some people’s motivation of manufacturing some false food in order to make more money, especially in China. Things like adding Melamine in milk powder which happened in China caused large amount of children had formed stone in their kidney. Food security is worth of paying attention to because of the disadvantages of development of science.

[Future challenges to microbial food safety]

Microbes can enter the food chain at different steps, are highly versatile and can adapt to the environment allowing survival, growth and production of toxic compounds. The goal of the conference was to discuss new challenges to food safety that are caused by micro-organisms as well as strategies and methodologies to counter these. Management of food safety is based on generally accepted principles of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points and of Good Manufacturing Practices. However, a more pro-active, science-based approach is required, starting with the ability to predict where problems might arise by applying the risk analysis framework.

Microbes are getting more, and their existence means threaten to our health. Food security becomes worse because of more and more microbes. We need to eliminate them and protect our own health.

[Food safety and nutrition: Improving consumer behavior]

Consumer awareness of food safety and nutrition is a major issue in relation to healthy lifestyles and disease prevention. Improper consumer food management has been implicated in a large number of cases of foodborne illnesses. To reduce the risk of foodborne illness, consumers must be willing to change behaviors that are not consistent with safe food storage and preparation practices. Change in such behaviors is strongly related to consumer knowledge of proper food handling practices. At the same time there is public consciousness of the role of diet in contributing to the health status, but this awareness has not led to sufficient improvement of eating habits.

In awareness of food security, we should notice our behavior and get rid of the virus. We are supposed to know what things we can consume and how to consume, and keep a balance life style as well. Sometimes we should change our behavior to protect us.
