The two websites I found to define literacy both give the same definition but in greater detail. A basic summary of the links above is, literacy is a person’s ability to create or interpret the printed word; although literacy can also be used to discuss the ability to work with certain kinds of codes. One specific thing I did find on one of the sites are "educator Paulo Freire’s view of literacy is at once practical and all-encompassing. Whether it is the words of a language, the symbols in a mathematical system, or images posted to the Internet—literacy can transform lives." My simple definition of literacy is the ability to read and write.
