Literacy, Video games, and Popular Culture
Gee uses literacy by giving examples of video games and Yu-Gi-Oh card. For example, the conversation between the mother and the child mixes tor vernacular and specialist language. The mother said the child has an oviraptor on his game and introduces it more through letting the child rethink the game he had played. This kind of intertextuality helps the child gain new knowledge. The form such as the video games brings the opportunity of learning literacy to the child the and this is a more acceptable way for the child. Gee argues that modern businesses pushing children to learn highly specialized languages are not making sense.
