reading response

In the passage, I like the idea about the reiki healing and the way author explained how it works. The way of healing therapy is interesting, and I especially like the explain that “universal is in a state of imbalance and it can be brought back to a state of equilibrium through energy." The whole essay is persuasive and interesting, the essay is logically organized, and the author wrote this essay in details that let readers easy to understand.

Though the whole essay is not too hard to understand, but I still have problem about why author mentioned this: "Controversy about the effectiveness of Reiki healing therapy and some institutions like the Catholic Church has at one time forbidden the practice from being used.. " How does it reverent to the whole essay?
