Question: Is it constitutional to have the separation of church and state applied to the public school system?

Wikipedia immediately defines the separation of church and state as “the distance in the relationship between organized religion and the nation state.” The website continues by stating that this practice has been adopted among many of the world’s nations and there are varying degrees of separation between the church and the state. From countries such as Turkey and France, who maintain a strict principle, to other countries like Denmark and the United Kingdom, who have kept a “constitutional recognition of an official state religion.”
Wikipedia continues with a long web page telling its reader of the history and concept of the separation of the church and state. Near the middle of the page, it tells us of the United States and its involvement with this topic. It mentions this topic’s history and involvement with the U.S. Constitution, First Amendment, founding fathers, and events that have sparked controversy.
When Googled, many links appear with articles that are titled “Separation: Good for Government, Good for Religion” and other articles that can be found on many news distributor’s websites, such as the L.A. Times. Quotes from some of this nation’s most famous people also appear, which has George Washington stating, “It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.” The most common links, when searched on Google, give the viewer a definition of what the separation of church and state is, much like Wikipedia does.
