define literacy
To summarize, the definition of "literacy" from http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/literacy and http://www.answers.com/topic/literacy is the ability to read and write. To be specific, the ability to read and write means to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, compute and use associated with different situations of printed or written material ability. To cultivate the ability to read and write, we need to have years of learning and memorizing. Reading and writing skills are applied in all aspects of life such as reading the job posting and filling out job application forms. Moreover, "Literacy" is related to use the language to survive in society. For instance, an adult who cannot read and understand the warning from pesticides could have underlying risks of intoxication.
