Gee's "What is Literacy"

I think Gee is trying to say that literacy is not just reading, but the understanding of it. The use of certain words to get a point across and the understanding of those words. Its the linguistic definition of words.
This reading did not change my own definition because I personally agree with it, so if anything it reinforced my beliefs. This just affects the understanding of my own literacy by making me want to make sure I know the meaning of everything I am reading and saying.
