Gee is using literacy in this paper to explain how the child understands what is going on and how it is going to make an impact on him. I think the Gee is correct in saying that children learn to read but don't learn the whole concept of literacy because they do not comprehend everything they are reading. While reading and trying to understand what he was saying, I had a hard time. He was using a ton of very academic language which I had to look up and he was also very straight and to the point in his format. I found that hard to understand. It was as if he didn't really take the reader into account. After reading this I think I am literate in reading, reading comprehension, and explaining what has been read.
