Ong's Paper
The overall message of Ong's paper is that literacy is a "common sense" type thing. He feels that literacy is something that comes to us naturally. He uses the word imperious to define literacy, and he basically saying that we know it is literacy without any justification. He says that calling someone "illiterate" suggests that persons belonging to the class it designates are deviant. To my understanding of his interpretation of being illiterate, he says that someone basically is not human, because that can not perform a simple task such as reading and writing.
