When we are asked to define a word "literacy," most of us usually says the ability to read and write. However, the deep meaning within the word does not only indicates the interaction with printed words, but also defines a process of experiencing the world that we are living in through texts. A literate person analyzes a text and interprets the meaning of it based on his/her personal values and perspectives. Through the process, he/she will be able to acquire new knowledge on various subjects and apply it to real life. As Frederick Douglass said, "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free."
