Define literacy

Basically, the definition of literacy is the ability to write and read or to use the language proficiently. One who has literacy need to be able to write coherently and think critically about what he/she has written. Furthermore, literacy means one has the ability to communicate and he/she can recognize, understand, interpret, exchange and communicate different information in order to participate in a civilized society. Besides, literacy also includes a continuous learning process to enable people to develop their knowledge and potential so that they can better fit a broader community.
