Literacy Definition

From reading these two websites' definitions, I have gained a vague understanding of what literacy is. At first, the word was used to define the quality of being able to read and write, regardless of proficiency. With some time, it has evolved into a much more complex definition. It now demands being able to read and write at a pace considered to be on par with some set standard. One source even recommended that literacy goes beyond reading and writing, and requires you to have an acceptable understand of math and modern technology.
