Cyanide and Happiness is a web-comic that revolves around two main characters, Cyanide and Happiness, who are only distinguishable by the color of their shirts. The comic is written by 4 main writers. Each writer has their own all around style, yet the style difference does not change the comic. The web-comic is built around simplicity. The art,text,content is all very simple. The simplicity itself may be the main appeal to Cyanide and Happiness.

The art aspect of the comic is very minimal. It is not aesthetically pleasing, but at the same time very amusing. The drawings are not intimidating, however; due to the lack of effort they are very welcoming. The emotions are obvious, and apparent by looking at the hands, eyebrows, mouth shape, and occasional extra lines around the head drawn for emphasis. In several strips the characters even joke about the lack of effort put into the drawings. The visuals are a perfect setup for the text and the content because the text and content aren't anymore complicated.

The text appears right over the characters' heads. The font is very laid back, the kind we were told never to use in formal papers. The text for me is very inviting. At first glance it looks like a simple and short read. This is great because when I want a good, easy laugh, I don't want to read for five minutes for one punchline. It draws an audience looking for instant gratification. People who are looking for a quick, witty, joke but aren't willing to put a lot of work into it will love Cyanide and Happiness.

Just like the text and the art, the content is very simple and relaxed. Between the two main characters and the occasional guest, they cover many controversial topics as well as non-controversial. They are not afraid "to go there". They cover dark things such as aids, suicide, and sex. The best part about the comic is their approach to these topics. It is a very lighthearted approach. The audience usually gets a good laugh about the anti-reactions of the main characters. The simple drawings, and text only make the anti-reaction funnier. Through a theme of simplicity, or lack of effort Cyanide and Happiness has definitely achieve popularity and acceptance among the internet.
