What's literacy!! #9

It’s not just a simple word! It’s a small word with deep meaning. Literacy could be more then one things. People started arguing about what this word mean and some of them created his own definition of literacy. So all of that shows how important this word in our life. That’s why the big writer like Ong and Gee has their own opinion of it. Literacy could mean the ability to read, write and communicate or it could be being able to communicate in a discourse.

In Gee Opinion, Literacy allows us to express ourselves to others who literate in the same discourse. Also he believes in Ideology, which define as a set of beliefs. For example, if a guy became a member of the Republican Party and other guy join the Democrats party they will be in different ideologies because they believe in so much different thing. Gee talks about the different of learning and acquisition. A good example of learning is what we learn from school because someone is giving information and we are taking it. However, acquisition is when the baby first born he will just listen and watch what his parents do then he start to talk and know what is good and bad in his level. Of course, Ong has a different definition then Gee about literacy.
